SICDP is implemented in 3 villages of Sonapur under Demoria Block, Kamrup Metro District, Assam. NEICORD worked with 3 project components - Community Leadership Development, Community Economic Development and Community Based Health Care Program in order to achieve the project goal i.e., sustainable development in the lives of people living in remote areas of Sonapur circle through strengthening local leadership to act as an agent of change in the community. The program is inclusive of all members in the community - the adult men & women, youth boys and girls, children and people with disabilities who comes from different religion, culture and language,
NEICORD formed 12 SHG including 8 Female and 3 Male during the reporting period. The project linked the SHGs with National Rural Livelihood Mission for loan and other benefits.
Continuous training to SHG on leadership, health, income generating activities, networking and linkages has helped the SHGs to realize their potentialities. The SHG are now networking with the government department and are successfully availing schemes and opportunities from trainings through various government departments. The SHG are now educating other women in the community on “Health and Hygiene”. As a result, there has been an increase in families practicing healthy lifestyle.

12 SHG have formed 3 sub committees with the help of the staff, Leadership subcommittee, IGA Subcommittee and Health Subcommittee
The SHGs are having weekly meeting and weekly savings.
All the SHGs have written vision/mission and have shared with all the SHG member
SHGs members adopted kitchen garden and started consuming nutritious food from the kitchen garden
36 Animators were selected and trained by the Project staff on Creation care on their roles and responsibilities. These Animators are raising awareness in the community including the youth on environment and care for creation
There is an increased in the number of family practising safe drinking water and following the 7 steps of hand washing. The family understood the importance of consuming nutritious food
The project linked the SHGs with Agriculture Department where they received 16000 saplings of flower seeds to start floriculture as their income generating activities.
Networking and linkages have been established with the various government department through which the people could avail schemes like MGNREGS and PDS from Block Development Office, ICDS from social welfare department and vegetables/fruit saplings and fertilizers from the Agriculture Department.
12 SHGs were formed out of this 8 are female SHGs and 4 are male SHGs
40 SHGs members have received Rs 4, 00,000 loans from the UCO bank to start income generating activities.
